I am a dessert addict! Favorite meal of the day: Dessert. Going out to dinner first thing I look for on the menu: Dessert. My favorite food of choice at any family gathering: dessert! I can’t get enough. Since starting my diet AKA long-term healthy eating plan, I limit eating tons of desserts & high calorie foods that satisfy my craving but defeat the purpose of eating healthy to begin with. Below are a few suggestions that are great to take to a summer party/barbecue. Of course, moderation is key!
Smith Island Cakes
Oh. My. Goodness. The Caramel and Cream cake is pure heaven. This was the BEST indulgence I’ve had in a VERY long time. Layers and layers of soft yellow cake. homemade caramel and a light, amazing caramel buttercream frosting, topped with a drizzle of sweet caramel. The perfect amount of sweetness that is worth every single calorie! A little background on the company, “Through the centuries, the Smith Island Cake has come to symbolize celebration, whether celebrating while together or celebrating while apart. For the last few hundred years, since the 1800’s, the Smith Island Cake has been the symbol of community and togetherness.” Located in the heart of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay, they bake their cakes from scratch using quality ingredients and they are totally worthy of earning the title of the official state dessert of Maryland. This was my first time ever ordering a cake online, and I will most definitely be ordering from Smith Island Cakes again! Nine different flavors that will satisfy any mood you’re in, including: Caramel and Cream, All Natural Oriole Orange, Original Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream, Lemon Cream, Strawberry and Cream, Bananas and Cream, Cooked Coconut, Double Chocolate. You can thank me later. 😉
Being from the Garden State, with a family who owns a farm just miles from my house, there always seems to be an endless amount of fruit in my house. I somehow always manage to make the healthiest foods into a sweet, sugary concoction, these ideas being no exception! It only takes a few minutes to cut up some fruit and dress it up all pretty making it look like a gourmet dessert.
[ one ] fruit skewers. Layer blueberries, strawberries and marshmallows/cheesecake bites. Any in-season fruit works great for this!
[ two ] chocolate dipped fruit. Dip in white or milk chocolate and then cover in sprinkles.
[ three ] fruit flag. My sister made this a few years in a row for the 4th of July, Blueberries, marshmallows and raspberries or strawberries. Festive. 😉
[ four ] fruit salad. Cut up your favorite fresh fruit and sprinkle with vanilla pudding mix, subtle sweetness that is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.
