The Best Primers For Oily Skin

I am not a makeup expert at all, not even close, but if there is one thing I’ve learned along the way, it’s the importance of a good primer. I still to this day skip priming my skin if I’m in a rush and can definitely see a difference in the smoothness & longevity of my foundation every single time. Whether you have oily skin or not, I’m sure you can relate to this. But of course, us combination/oily skin girls notice it the most! If you have oily skin and are on the hunt for a good primer, I definitely suggest checking out on of my top four choices below.

::: Peter Thomas Roth // Skin to Die For Mattifying Primer ::: I am a huge, huge fan of Peter Thomas Roth masks, and their CC cream. It’s actually one of my go-to face creams when I’m not looking for heavy coverage but still want smooth, even skin. Now, I can add their mattifying primer to my list, it has a light tint and claims to help absorb excess oil while helping reduce pore size over time. I just started using this so I can’t speak for the pore size claim, but it does smooth skin and looks & feels great under foundation or even on its own which is awesome for days you don’t feel like piling on tons of makeup.

::: Cotarde // Daydream Mousse Cream ::: Who else loves stumbling across an amazing product by accident?! I received this through Octoly and wasn’t at all expecting it to be my most used, favorite primer! I love the texture, it gives the same effect as a silicone based primer would but without actually containing any silicone. It blurs every imperfection instantly, leaves skin feeling incredibly smooth, matte and is my most reached for primer.

::: Dermalogica // Hydrablur Primer ::: This one is unique because it contains a ton of high-quality skincare ingredients. In addition to being lightweight, non-greasy and claiming to reduce pore size, this is packed with H2ORelease Complex and Abyssinian Oil to lock in hydration. You’re probably thinking, why would I want to use an oil-based product if I have oily skin? One of the best ways to combat oily skin is to make sure you’re keeping your skin moisturized and hydrated and this surely does the trick!

::: Cover FX // Custom Blot Drops ::: I’ve had this product since last summer and it’s made it through 10+ makeup decluttering days, so that alone says a lot. This one is really cool because it can be applied under foundation, or over top. I prefer to pat on 1-2 drops through my T-zone, let it completely dry and sink in, then put a BB cream or foundation over top. It keeps my makeup completely in-tact and shine free ALL day long. This got so-so reviews on Sephora, but I personally like it, and if you have this and don’t think it works that well, try using another primer over-top, for an added layer and to keep your skin extra matte!

FYI ** As always, my reviews are not paid and are based on my own opinion, personal use and results.
