The Latest & Greatest in Foundation / Kat Von D, Smashbox + Laura Mercier

My desire to put a bunch of new foundations to the test came about when I heard the news that my favorite foundation, the Fiona Stiles matte finish foundation concentrate was being discontinued. All good things must come to an end I guess. 😦 Although I am missing that foundation like crazy, it gave me a reason to branch out and try new things in hope to find a new fave. Out of the 11 (or so) foundations I’ve recently tried, these are the ones that work for me & made the cut!

[ Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation ] $40 ::: Matte, long lasting, full coverage. A little goes a long way with this and it covers it all. If you have oily skin you’ll love the finish of this. My only complaint is that it does oxidize and turn a shade or so darker after an hour or so of wear time. I had already read that in multiple reviews before ordering so I ordered a shade lighter than I normally would and it matches pretty well.

[ Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation ] $48 ::: The newest addition to my collection and one of my favorites. Super lightweight, water-resistant, matte finish, oil-free, non-comedogenic… pretty much amazing! I love full coverage foundation that doesn’t look full coverage, know what I mean? Who’s into the cake face look? … umm nobody! This gives great, even coverage while still feeling light and looking natural and it looks even better when set with their cult-favorite Translucent Loose Setting Powder. Dream team? Yup!

[ Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation ] $35 ::: WOW, the Kat Von D line never ceases to amaze me, and this product is no exception. If you are looking for THE MOST full coverage matte foundation ever, this is it. This foundation will cover everything… literally everything. Blemishes, skin discoloration, tattoos (yes even tattoos!), will all disappear underneath this. It does feel a bit heavy and it is definitely not an everyday product for me, but if you’re going somewhere that you want to look flawless (weddings, picture day, formal dinners, etc.) you will absolutely love the results of this. And they offer one of the biggest shade varieties I’ve seen from any brand.

[ IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Lines Foundation ] $38 ::: I am a huge fan of IT Cosmetics and their skin loving formulas. I’ve used their pressed Celebration Foundation, CC+ Cream, Confidence in a Compact and most recently, this. I love that this is actually an anti-aging serum that is infused with pure color pigments. Essentially you’re getting a 2-for-1 and a product that will hydrate and conceal wrinkles & fine lines that contains collagen, caviar extract, hyaluronic acid, tons of vitamins and is a fabulous medium coverage foundation. I’d say its medium coverage, but of course depending on the amount you apply it can definitely be built up for more. This is great is you love BB & CC creams and a more natural finish that’s suitable for everyday wear.

[ Smashbox Studio Skin Face Shaping Foundation Stick ] $42 ::: I’m not usually a foundation stick kind of girl, but there’s a first for everything, right?! This is another 2-for-1 product that is dual-ended and contains a contour shade to sculpt and define. So, this is marketed towards combination/dry skin, but I do think it can work for oily/combination skin if you don’t over apply the product and of course definitely set it with a good quality setting powder. This applies best with a damp beauty sponge and leaves a luminous dewy finish.
