2018, and I have never been more into “drugstore” makeup than I am now. With what feels like most popular Sephora brands coming out with eyeshadow palettes that cost around $50+ on average, it is SO refreshing to find something similar and really high quality for less than half ($20!). The new Milani Bold Obsessions & Most Loved Mattes 12 pan palettes pack a huge punch without the high price tag.
Let’s start off with the Most Loved Mattes, my preference of the two. While I love a good champagne shimmer shade to pack all over my lid, I love the mauve shade range included in this even if it’s all matte. The benefit to an all matte palette vs. all shimmers are that it’s easier to create a more “complete” look. Plus, I notice many of the more affordable eyeshadow palettes are mainly shimmery/metallic filled so it’s nice to see an all matte palette. At first glance I thought it looked pretty similar to the Stila Eyes Are The Window palette. It includes 12 neutral mattes that are soft, silky and blend so easily. The shades range from light to deep in due and aren’t overly powdery and don’t lack in pigmentation. I find these wear best with primed eyes and pair perfectly with a creamy glitter pigment and of course wear well with the Bold Obsessions palette.
While I prefer the Most Loves Mattes palette, I’d probably recommend the Bold Obsessions palette more. It contains both matte and metallic shades so it doesn’t limit you to just mattes and you just get more variety because of this. The formula is consistent throughout the whole palette, every shade performs beautifully. The mattes are pigmented (not patchy at all!) and the metallics are a creamy consistency that is intensely pigmented and the satins are silky and glide on easily with little to no fallout. The jewel-toned shades are on trend and it’s so easy to create several different looks with this.
One of my biggest complaints when it comes to drugstore eyeshadows across the board is drier formulas with very sheer color payoff. I’d much prefer a powdery formula over something that I have to dig my brush into multiple times and still see very little to no color show up on my skin. Milani’s formula in these really stand out amongst shelves and shelves of sub-par palettes for the equivalent price. And not only are they great for drugstore prices, but they are great quality overall even in comparison to products two to three times their price. These exceeded my expectations are are totally worth buying!

The Bold Obsessions palette swatched SO beautifully- cannot believe the quality for such an awesome price!
Right?! I was shocked how good they are!
Ugh, that sucks to hear they’re dry! Milani has such great products, theyre lipsticks are my favorite at the drugstore. Maybe they’ll re-formulate and relaunch these palettes
