The Best Setting Powders for Oily Skin

The final step in any makeup routine is critical to it having a lasting impact, this applies even more so when you have oily skin. Using a quality setting powder has the ability to vastly extend the life of your makeup and fight shine like no other. As someone with combination/oily skin, setting powders have been a true essential for me for years and a step I never skip when wearing makeup. Discover below my absolute favorite powders that provide matte, even coverage that will last you all day long and then some.

::: Kat Von D • Lock-It Blotting Powder ::: I’ve had this for over a year now and still find myself reaching for it regularly. The texture is so fine and dense, it applies SO lightly and offers just a light tint of color and keeps your skin completely matte for hours. It doesn’t look heavy or change the color of your foundation, it just keeps everything completely matte and locked in place. It does come with a little pad applicator which is great for touch-ups throughout the day. While it’s not sweat-proof this is amazing at taming oily skin and even more so appreciated this time of year when most of us notice our oily-ness even more. It comes in 4 shades (fair, light, medium and deep), and has gained “holy-grail” status with me! I use shade light during most of the year and medium in the summer when I’m lucky enough to get a tan. // http://www.katvondbeauty.com

::: Fenty Beauty • Invisimatte Blotting Powder ::: With pore diffusing properties that instantly absorb oil and extend the wear of your foundation, this is a must for mid-day touch ups. This palette is also magnetized and attaches to the Fenty Portable Touch Up Brush making this even easier and more functional to throw in your makeup bag for mid-day touch ups. This is the type of powder that is so light and traceless, that it’s awesome for layering over AND under your foundation to double fight the shine. This is an elevated take on blotting papers and worth carrying along wherever you go.. // http://www.fentybeauty.com

::: Too Faced • Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting Powder ::: This is for sure the best loose setting powder I’ve used to date. I’ve tried a bunch of loose setting powders over the years and was beginning to lose hope on finding one that would set my makeup, keep my skin matte without changing it’s color and one that didn’t look cakey or make my foundation feel heavy. This is the only one who’s managed to accomplish all of the above while making my makeup last ALL day long and keep my skin oil-free. Just like the rest of the Peaches and Cream collection, this smells absolutely amazing and it offers a universal peach tint so it won’t leave behind a white cast. This setting powder + the Peach Perfect Foundation = the ultimate dream team. // http://www.toofaced.com

::: Laura Mercier • Translucent Loose Setting Powder ::: For the most tried & true setting powders, look no further than this. It’s a “cult-favorite” and has been raved about for YEARS. While I don’t reach for this as often as my TF powder, this still works wonders when it comes to setting makeup for every skin type. It’s super soft, weightless and blends out so easily and leaves your skin matte without looking too flat or dull. I do think it’s easier to end up with the infamous “cake face” when using a loose setting powder vs. a pressed. So if I ever feel like I’ve over done it with this, I spray a few spritz of the Urban Decay All Nighter spray (any setting spray will work) and press it in with a damp beauty sponge and it takes care of the excess powder right away. // http://www.lauramercier.com

::: Giorgio Armani Beauty • Neo-Nude Compact Powder Foundation ::: Although this is technically a foundation and not a setting powder, it’s offers a sheer veil of coverage and I find it works best layered overtop of a BB cream or light to medium coverage liquid foundation. It’s a pure pigment powder that provides a radiant finish. I know what you’re thinking, oily skin.. radiant finish? Nope. However, this doesn’t at all leave behind a greasy or oily feeling just the most subtle luminosity that makes your skin look youthful and glowy. Rather than just sitting on top of skin, the silky powder formula blends in for a soft focus finish. I highly recommend trying this even if you have combination/oily skin. I don’t think this holds up as well as any of the other powders on this list, however it makes for a phenomenal finishing powder applied overtop to help blend everything together and look flawless all day long. // http://www.giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com

::: Urban Decay • All Nighter Waterproof Setting Powder ::: I knew as soon as this released, I had to give it a try. I’ve used and loved their setting spray for years and knew if this were nearly as good as that, than it would be one of my new “go-to” everyday products. And, I was right, this is great on it’s own to set your foundation and the perfect companion to their setting spray. What makes this different than the rest is not only does it mattifying and completely sets your makeup, but it’s waterproof! This new formula promises a weightless texture that’s breathable yet keeps moisture out & locks your makeup into place while getting you through a hot sweaty day with no problem. This gets the job done and keeps your makeup intact for 10+ hours and is a must for summer beach days! // http://www.urbandecay.com

::: Too Faced x Kandee Johnson • Banana Pudding Powder ::: This was limited edition and probably very hard to find, but if you manage to track it down, get it! I love using this to not only set my under-eye area but to mattify my entire face. It adds a subtle (but noticeable) brightness to the skin that no other setting powder I have does. Yellow is great for neutralizing redness, so if that’s an issue for you this will definitely help, I can vouch for that – and this even contains tiny dots of pink, purple and green for added color correction benefits. Two birds, one stone – check. It blends out amazingly and doesn’t leave behind a yellow cast at all, I highly recommend this and hope Too Faced brings this back and makes it a permanent product! // http://www.toofaced.com
