After years of watching Mario create magic with makeup, I was excited to see him release his own line! From his iconic role as Kim K’s makeup artist to his worldwide Masterclasses, we all could stand to learn a thing or two from Mario. Out of his entire collection, the Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette called to me. It’s simple, it’s compact and it is beautiful.
The monochromatic packaging is sleek and gives this palette a sophisticated feel. The all-matte shades offer a universally flattering color story in a smooth, buildable formula. I was a bit surprised with the color payoff of the shadows. When first swatching them they seemed kind of patchy, however when applying them to the eyes they go on smoothly and build up very easily. These aren’t a one swipe kind of formula. They slowly build up pigmentation and do not all blend into one shade when layered. I think this wide of a neutral shade range would be ideal for a makeup artist and the not so overly pigmented formula makes it great for beginners as well.
I’ve said it time and time again, I will ALWAYS be a “neutral” makeup lover. I feel you cannot go wrong when sticking to the basics. Especially when done well. This palette has such a nice range of neutral/warm tones and can be used for more than just eyeshadow – eyeliner, filling in your brows or even to lightly contour. Whether your looking to create a super simple “barely there” look or a full blown smokey eye, this palette has you covered.
